Stephen Bayliss - My Experience and Credentials

I am an experienced chartered psychologist who has worked in four local authorities as well as abroad, first as a teacher, then as an Educational Psychologist (EP). As a chartered psychologist I am a member of The British Psychological Society (BPS) and its Division of Educational and Child Psychology (DECP). I am experienced in working with a wide variety of adults and children of all ages and with a range of other professionals in multi-agency settings and regarding a wide variety of issues. Working with other professionals and agencies such as health professionals, social services, teachers, foster carers and welfare officers enables me to assist my clients as I am well aware of how various agencies work.

Extensive work across the range of schools- mainstream and special (both day and residential) as well as special units, private schools (including special), children’s homes and Pupil Referral Units, has provided an excellent grounding in assisting many adults and children. I have also been a member of various advisory panels and working parties and also helped develop various materials and projects. In addition, I had a special appointment for Special Educational Needs (SEN) Tribunals.

I am experienced in using a variety of approaches with adults and children to support learning including, educational psychology assessments (e.g. literacy and numeracy), consultative approaches, standardised and dynamic assessment, learning styles and thinking skills.

Approaches to support a range of social/ emotional (emotional literacy/ emotional intelligence) needs include counselling, behaviour management, hypnosis and anxiety.

I have used hypnosis for a number of years and am a member of the British Society of Experimental and Clinical Hypnosis (BSECH).

Training for schools, education staff and other personnel has been a strong feature of my work over the years.

A long-term interest has been the benefits of improving a range of social and emotional skills for adults, children and by training whole schools and other organisations. This is now often known as emotional intelligence or emotional literacy, an area that I have researched intensively as part of my doctorate.

I provide a range of support throughout London, Sussex, Kent, Surrey and the South East of England, as well as further afield, depending on the type of work requested.
